COMIC BOOK CAFE

Analyzed the market in front of Ewha Womans University and design a shop to develop the marketplace of the stagnant place. It aimed at designing the best in consideration of many factors such as surrounding commercial area, topography, flow of human traffic, noise, population, and land use. Considering the lack of resting space and the fact that the main audience is young college students I designed a comic book cafe to find rest and pleasure. This is based on real building stucture.

PROGRESS

Originally, the first and second floors were completely divided. However, I combined the first and second floors to make them feel as one space.

First Floor

The main entrance connects with the counter on the first floor. To make two floors into one space the whole floor is no shoes zone for comfort. But also to make the path simple as possible, the first floor has only a reading area.

Second floor

The Second floor only have book shelves. For the simple path it's one way. And to make connection with the first floor there's an open space in the center that first floor and second floor can see each other.

FINAL PLAN

The design concept is hexagon. Space and the shape of the furnitures are limited
to the hexagonal shape, giving unity. The first floor is blue and the second floor is red. It is also used for coloring by concept. The basic colors are white and dark gray, emphasizing simplicity.

Second Floor

Tthe second floor is a space for a book selection. In order to communicate between the two spaces, the ceiling was opened so that the first floor to the second floor and the second floor to the first floor were made visible. The floor is covered with rug including stairs.

Section shots

The furniture attached to the window that can see the inside from the outside was made with care about its shape. The first floor has a shoebox, and the second floor has a shelf shape designed to look like a clear hexagon, giving it an element that can be enjoyed from the outside.

Inside view (1st floor)

It is composed of two layers in the first floor for space utilization. The lower floors were semi-sedentary in pursuit of cozy and comfort, and the upper floors gave the freedom to take a variety of poses in a sitting style.

Inside view (2nd floor)

The second floor was able to see all bookshelves at a glance. Unlike the first floor, which has its own personal character, the space is divided and made into a single space, so that it can be visually displayed as a single space.
